Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

Enjoy and Rest

I put up sticky notes around the house (mainly on the computer and in the bathroom) with reminders of aspects of my character that I am working on.  For many many months I had the scripture about ‘loving your enemies’ attached to my bathroom sink.  I finally took it down.  Now this doesn’t mean that I have perfection in this area but improvements have been made and it is time to move on to another area for awhile.

On my computer monitor I have two cards — one says:

“ENJOY!  This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

It has one of my favorite pastimes pictured on it.  A child swinging.  I love to swing. – While on vacation I even got Curt to swing with me a couple of times. 🙂  And then shock among shocks, he came over to the playground to swing with me at the church picnic — in front of people he knew — but probalby because I made a big deal of how he wouldn’t.  — but hey it worked 🙂

The other card says:

“What part of REST IN HIM don’t I understand?  Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”  Matt 11:28

I think they secretly took a picture of me for this card.  She is frazzled, food flying everywhere, laundry spilling out, list of things to do — you get the picture.

Two opposite pictures, yet they really go together well.  See I think that one must purpose in her/his heart to enjoy life otherwise the cares and concerns of the day will overtake you.

Enjoy and rest.  I have been guilty of working all day and when bedtime comes complaining about not having any down time.  (The art of not complaining will be another blog) Curt will say to me “Honey, who is in charge of your schedule?”  He is so right.  On the days when this happens I have not made it my aim to enjoy the journey and/or made it a conscious effort to lay aside work and relax for awhile.

It seems it can be so easy to push aside things that aren’t looming at us with neon lights a blazing.  Or easy to get wrapped up in what appears to be urgent that we can forget to take time to relax and enjoy the moment.

This is something I will be working on for quite awhile. 🙂

til next time

  1. Swinging at the playground was easy brownie points and I can always use more brownie points.

The ability to find rest and joy in the midst of an active life is indeed a secret to happiness.
