In the beginning God…..

First things first.  God loves us.  (John 3:16)  We don’t deserve it.  It is not something we earn.  He just loves us!!

Jesus loves me.  Jesus loves you.  Jesus loves mankind.

When we grab hold of that and start to truly embrace Jesus’ love then loving Him back flows naturally.

How do we know Jesus loves us?

Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so.  Little ones to Him belong.  They are weak but He is strong.

I don’t know about you, but I can still relate to that children’s song.  The Bible is filled with verse after verse that speaks of God’s love for us.  Furthermore, in my weakness, He is strong.  (2 Cor 12:9)

Most Sunday mornings you will find me sitting around a table with a group of people who are trying to live their faith in such a way as to make an impact on their corner of the world.   Are we perfect?  No, but we are changing little by little – sometimes we even make great leaps of faith.   Today someone shared how she handled a situation and it was evident to her that she handled it differently than she would have before.  That just makes me want to shout and spin around!!  I love to celebrate big and little victories!

Today we talked about the words that come out of our mouth.  Do you know the Bible has a lot to say about what we say?   It matters to God.

Try this verse on and see how it fits.

^“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.”  (Eph 4:29 AMP)

How do our words measure up?

Do our words give grace?

Are the words that come out of our mouth a blessing?

The Bible also tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. (Prov 18:21) What do the words we speak say about us?  Are we encouraging others?  Are we tearing down others? Is sarcasm a common form of communication that we use?  What about nonverbal communication?  Are our words bringing life or death?

We do make an impact on people.  Is it good or is it not good?  After people talk with us do they walk away feeling lighter or have we added to the load they are carrying?

^“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.”  (Psalm 19:14 NASB)

Meditation — what do you think about?  Where do your thoughts take you?  Do you look for the good in others or are you quick to find (and point out) their faults?  Negativity breeds negativity.  Be careful what you dwell on, think about, and say — it matters.

I want to make a positive impact in the lives of the people who come across my path.  I have found that I need to be intentional about it  or I can so easily get sidetracked and miss opportunities.
