Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

life

Life seems to be what happens while we are making all sorts of plans.  Good intentions don’t do us any good unless we follow through.

I want my life to make a difference.

psalm 34 14

Turn from evil.

Do we turn from evil or do we let it entertain us? The movie industry does a fine job of filming corruption, violence, greed, affairs, murders, sex……. we choose what we watch.

Do good.

Do is an action verb. Be intentional about doing good.

Seek peace.

When we feel ourselves getting worked up over something — remember we are offered peace that goes beyond our understanding. (Phil 4:6-7)

John 14:27 Jesus is telling us:
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Pursue peace.

Going after peace is repeated. Personally I think that is because of the importance of having a peaceful state of mind. If we are upset, we are much more apt to worry, make bad choices, say things we regret, and/or focus inward taking our eyes off Jesus.

Turn from evil. Do good. Seek peace and pursue it. My prayer is that I will grow in my understanding and ability to apply these things to my life. What about you?

growing in faith!

hiking

We like to go hiking.

Some trails are clearly marked – some are not marked at all. Some trails are wide enough for 4 people to walk side my side. While other trails are barely wide enough for one person to carefully pass. Some trails are filled with stairs. What goes up must come down. While other trails are mostly level.

The trails that drop off on both sides are the ones that make my heart skip a beat and find me forgetting to breathe. Recently, my husband kept telling me to just look at the trail, one step at a time, don’t look down, follow his footsteps………..

Life can be like that sometimes. Only we have God leading us, reminding us to take it one step at a time, to follow Him, to stay focused, to not look at the problem….

Following God!

Psalm 18:32-34 (ESV)

“the God who equipped me with strength
and made my way blameless.
He made my feet like the feet of a deer
and set me secure on the heights.”

faith under pressure

Is your faith under pressure?

“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” James 1:2-4 (The Message)

How we behave when the pressure of life gets intense reveals the depth of our Christianity. Impatience tosses peace right out the window. Negativity tears down hope and trust. Fear cripples faith.

Pressure forces us to see areas that are in need of improvement. Hopefully, then we recognize our great need for God to help us become all that He intends.

When you are frustrated – see it for what it isn’t. It isn’t from God.

God loves us just as we are and that love changes us.

We can spend way too much time and energy trying to figure out why instead of letting our faith in God rise up (Psalm 68:1) and our trust in God quiet our fears.

God will make a way!

what’s important?

God promises that when we draw near to Him, He draws near to us. (James 4:8)

I have often said that we are as close to Jesus as we want to be. After all, everyone gets the same 24 hours in a day. What do we do with that time?

For me, I have to be intentional or things seem to push aside the most important relationship I have.

“Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.” Psalms 27:7-8 NKJV

A number of years ago I was introduced to the song “I Miss My Time With You” by Larnell Harris. It has a rather strong message. Are we too busy? Are we too busy trying to serve Him that we neglect spending time with Him? I hope not.

good night

A good reminder as I head off to bed.

If you should wake in the middle of the night — talk to God. He is awake. Pray for those that God brings to your mind and don’t worry about falling asleep in the middle of your prayer. I am sure it is ok with God.

grateful for the many ways God revealed Himself to me today,

faith?

I read something today that made me wonder and not an awe type of wonder.

A woman posted something on Facebook and the consensus of the comments on the post could be summed up with this quote “… her personal life has NOTHING to do with her faith in god!”

How very sad! How sad that people would think our faith has nothing to do with our personal life.

Our faith in God has everything to do with our personal life. God desires a personal intimate relationship with us. To know and be known (John 10:14) — yes, it is personal!!

He is an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1) He is with us always. (Matt 28:20) He holds us up. (Psalms 63:8) He fights for us. (Ex 14:14)

This is my prayer for you today:

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

11-12 Because we know that this extraordinary day is just ahead, we pray for you all the time—pray that our God will make you fit for what he’s called you to be, pray that he’ll fill your good ideas and acts of faith with his own energy so that it all amounts to something. If your life honors the name of Jesus, he will honor you. Grace is behind and through all of this, our God giving himself freely, the Master, Jesus Christ, giving himself freely. The Message (MSG)

All to Jesus, I surrender!

Resurrection Sunday in song

He is Risen.
He is Risen Indeed!
The following is a compilation of various lines from Resurrection Sunday hymns.   See how many you can pick out.
TELLING THE STORY THROUGH SONG
Thus He left His heavenly glory
to accomplish the Father’s plan (1)
On Calvary’s hill of sorrow
where sin’s demands were paid (2)

For twas on that old Cross,
Jesus suffered and died
to pardon and sanctify me (3)
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe (4)

Lives again our glorious King
Where, O death, is now thy sting? (5)
Death cannot keep his prey
Jesus, my Savior (6)
I know that He is living
whatever men may say! (7)

My richest gain I count by loss
and pour contempt on all my pride (8)
And from my smitten heart with tears,
two wonders I confess
the Wonders of His glorious love
and my unworthiness (9)
May I be willing, Lord, to bear
daily my cross for Thee (10)

I am so wondrously saved from sin
Jesus so sweetly abides within (11)
Redeeming love has been my theme
and shall be til I die (12)

O how I love Him, Savior and friend
How can my praises ever find end! (13)
Then He’ll call me someday
to my home far away, (14)
It will be worth it all
when we see Jesus! (15)

How many songs did you recognize? I enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Music is powerful.

I only wish I would have put this together while my mom was alive.  She would have loved this!
Here are the songs.

what did Jesus do?

If we are not mindful, we can get sucked into the hurry, hurry, schedule packed, pulled in many directions, life going round and round in circles leaving no room for the unexpected. Yet, the unexpected happens.

Jesus is leaving Jericho heading to Jerusalem. It is 17 miles. Before leaving he told his disciples what would take place there. (Death and Resurrection)

As he left Jericho, a great crowd follows him. Two blind men are sitting by the road. When they heard who was passing by they began to cry out to Him. The multitude tried to quiet them. They got all the louder. “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David.”

What did Jesus do?
Matthew 20:32 -33 “So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.”

V 32 He stood still, and called them – even though He was on His way to Jerusalem, knowing what was ahead – he stood still. He met them in that moment.

What Do We Do? Are we willing to stop, stand still and do good? Do we take time to help? Once you start to pay attention to the opportunities, you will find them everywhere.

finding the smooth rhythm of grace,

reflection

“You may be the only Bible some will ever read.”
“People are drawn to you and then to Christ.”
Some days all I can say is, “Oy!”
I make mistakes. You do too. Life isn’t about the mistake as much as it is about what you do with the mistake.
Do you run from the mistake or do you own up to it? Do you learn from the mistake or do you keep repeating it? Do you seek truth or choose denial? Do you ask God to help you to make choices that are pleasing to Him?
People watch us. People see how we handle life. People see through phony. What are we showing them?
Do I demonstrate the overcoming power of God in my life? Does His love shine through? Do I point others to Christ by the choices and actions I take?
“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” 1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)
Be ready!
I want to be a reflection of Christ.  Just as the moon reflects the suns rays, I want to reflect the love, joy, peace and hope I have in Christ.
Let them see You in me!

make a difference

Look out world cuz I am here to make a difference!  Generosity gets my mind off of me! I am blessed to be a blessing!

“The generous man will be prosperous,
And he who waters will himself be watered” Proverbs 11:25 (NASB)

When God shines the spotlight on your life, what does He see? Do you lean more toward generous or stingy?

There are many ways that we can display generosity. We can lend a helping hand, speak encouraging words, provide for a need, share a possession, give it forward, financially give to missionaries, be generous with your time in visiting those in nursing homes – the thing all of these have in common is that it is for someone else.

Generosity gets my mind off of me.

Looking to be a blessing today!
