Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

GO!

“And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”
Mark 16:15 (NLT)

How do we do that?

We pray. Prayer is communication with the Father. Prayer changes things. Something to remember, though, is that Jesus said, “Go!” Prayer with action is powerful. God will direct your steps but you must take those steps.

One thing you can do is to be intentional about getting out there. Meet people where they are: those you work with, see at the grocery store, your neighbors, at the park…. be intentional.
Look for ways to bring Jesus into the conversation. Listen to what they are saying and look for ways to share hope in Christ. Using your own story, reveal ways Jesus has made a difference.

Don’t let fear stop you. The more you step out, the easier it will become. Just start.

Go and share.

Micah 6:8

Recently the question the question was asked,  “What does God require of us?”

A few of the answers were:

Love God

Love your neighbor

Do good, and

Be humble

Obedience

My mind went to Micah 6:8 “He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”  (KJV)

Do justly.
Love Mercy.
Walk humbly with God.

micah 6 8

How do we live that out in our day to day happenings?

today — you choose

THURSDAY!

“This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

God gives us this day – we choose how we will handle it. I choose joy. Not all days are great but, there is good in every day! I chose to see the good, give God praise and to trust Him in all things – good and bad.

T – Truthful
H -Helpful
U – Upright
R – Respect
S – Sparkle
D – Dream
A – Adventurous
Y – Yes, Lord

Father, help me to be Truthful and Upright in my dealings with people. May I make the most of opportunities to be Helpful. May I show Respect for others and see people thru Your eyes. May You Sparkle thru me. Give me God-sized Dreams and an Adventurous heart as I say “Yes Lord” to whatever You ask. Amen

” Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly,
And works righteousness,
And speaks the truth in his heart;
He who does not backbite with his tongue,
Nor does evil to his neighbor,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;” Palm 15:1-3 (NKJV)

but i intend…..

We judge ourselves by our intentions, yet judge others by their actions.

Today I want to look at just that first part. It can be so easy to fall into this trap. “Well, I intend to ….” And yet never do it. (Example – I intend to read my Bible. I intend to grow in my relationship with God.) However, because we intend to do it, we are numb to the conviction to actually do it.

How well does it go over with you when your child doesn’t do what he/she was told and their explanation is – I’m gonna do it?

Delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Disobedience has consequences. Sometimes our intentions end up making us soft on sin. Sin, if not dealt with, will take us farther than we ever thought we would go, keep us longer than we ever wanted to stay, and cost us more than we ever thought possible.

What is God speaking to you about today? What intention do you need to follow through on?

this battle isn’t mine

Whatever comes our way today – God is with us.

Nothing comes as a surprise to Him.
He calls us to trust Him – to let our faith arise.
“By faith—by believing God—we know that the world and the stars—in fact, all things—were made at God’s command; and that they were all made from things that can’t be seen. ” Hebrews 11:3 (TLB)
God created the heavens and the earth, He holds it all together, He has us engraved on the palm of His hand, AND that battle we are in, well, don’t forget that it is His battle and we are His! (Gen 1:1, Col 1:17, Isaiah 49:16, 2 Chron 20:15, Psalm 110:3)

Whatever it is that is coming at us – God is greater!

Say this with me:
–That person that is trying to make my life difficult — God says that Vengeance is His – He will repay.                            (Romans 12:19)

–The health issues that I face — God says to trust Him. He is my healer and His grace is sufficient.”                           (Proverbs 3:5-6, Exodus 15:26, 2 Cor 12:9)

–That job related issue that is bringing me stress – God says to cast my cares on Him.                                                        (1 Peter 5:7)

–That thing that is trying to bring anxiety – God says His comforts gives me renewed hope.                                     (Psalm 94:19)

–When my paycheck is reduced, I trust God  — God says He is my provider.  I will lack no good thing.                                  (Psalm 34:10)

I Trust God!
battle
“Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.”
Psalm 100:2-4 (NLT)

why?

Trials happen for any number of reasons.

Choices we make…
Choices others make that impact us…
Testing of our faith…
The Bible says so…
So God Will be glorified…
So that others will see our hope…
So that our compassion will deepen…
To learn humility…
And the list goes on

2 Corinthians 2:3-4 “All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.”

We can try to run away from trials but I have yet to see that be successful. Instead, know God is right there with you, refining you, and strengthening you so that you can in turn help others.

wonder

live out loud

PERSPECTIVE – GRATITUDE – WONDER

Some songs are as powerful the 99th time you hear it as it was the first time you heard it.

“I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean.”

PERSPECTIVE – GRATITUDE – WONDER
Psalm 136:3 (NKJV)
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever:”

PERSPECTIVE – GRATITUDE – WONDER

“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder.”

Psalm 136:4 (NKJV)
“To Him who alone does great wonders,
For His mercy endures forever;”

Our God is so creative!

PERSPECTIVE, GRATITUDE, and WONDER!
Psalm 136:5 (NKJV)
“To Him who by wisdom made the heavens,
For His mercy endures forever;”

When was the last time you looked up at the sky and thought about how vast it is?

PERSPECTIVE, GRATITUDE, and WONDER.

“I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance. Never settle for the path of least resistance…….. And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance — I hope you dance.”

Don’t fear those mountains. Keeping things in perspective reduces stress. Does it really matter? Is it worth getting frustrated? In the scope of the next five years – will it even be remembered?

Have a heart of gratitude. Take time to pause.

I don’t want to miss out on living because I was too busy to notice. I don’t want to settle for good enough.  I want to dance!!
I challenge you to stop, look around you, and really take in the moment. Allow yourself to be right where you are, not looking ahead to the next thing on the agenda or playing the “I’ll be happy when” game.   Dance!

PERSPECTIVE, GRATITUDE, and WONDER!

music

Worship is so much more than the songs I sing in church.  It is the life I live each and everyday.  Music is one way my heart expresses the awe that I feel.
I often break out into song.  I almost always have a tune in my head.  Sometimes I am not aware that  my mouth is sharing that tune.

For me, music keeps my heart in the right place.

“This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NASB)

“May my life song sing to You!! I want to sign your name at the end of this day knowing that my heart was true. May my life song sing to YOU!”

That is my goal for today – when all is said and done – when I lay my head down to sleep – that my life will have reflected my love for Jesus. I don’t want to just get through this day.  I want to enjoy this day and make a difference.

The sun comes up it’s a new day dawning.

What are you going to do with your day? How will you spend the next few hours? What will consume your attention?

word picture

If we don’t intentionally set out to enjoy today and be grateful, it can so easily escape us.

another day

Another day begins.  What will bring?  How will I handle it?  When the day is done, will I look back on it and wish I had done things different?  I hope not.  That is why I purpose in my heart to see the good, do good, and trust God.

God is good!
All the time!
And all the time
God is good!

psalm 103 2
“This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24 NASB)

“But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
I will sing to the Lord
because he is good to me.” Psalm 13:5-6 NLT)

“For God called you to do good,
even if it means suffering,
just as Christ suffered for you.
He is your example,
and you must follow in his steps.” (1 Peter 2:21 NLT)

“My suffering was good for me,
for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.
Your instructions are more valuable to me
than millions in gold and silver. ( Psalm 119:71-72 NLT)

“I will tell of the Lord’s unfailing love.
I will praise the Lord for all he has done…” (Isaiah 63:7 NLT)

What are you going to do with your day? I am going to look for the good and give God thanks. I choose to rejoice and trust – knowing that He is in control. I need not worry for He is working in those difficult circumstances.  I choose to follow Jesus.

God is good!

rule follower / rule breaker?

Rules — Some people think rules don’t apply to them.  Some people are bent on being rule breakers.  Other people recognize the need for rules.
There are rules to playing games, driving a car, sitting in a library, taking tests….. everywhere I look there are rules. Now when it comes to some things – playing dominoes for example, the rules may differ widely from one group to the next. So it is important to set the rules up before playing that first game.

rules
Some rules we can change. Other rules we cannot change. I can remember getting kicked out of the library as a teenager because I wasn’t following the rules. At the time I thought it was a stupid rule. (I was in a conference room designed to be a place to talk, so why couldn’t I talk?) Consequences can help us to abide by rules in the future. The librarian set and enforced the rules. I learned to abide by those rules.

Our country has many rules. Sadly, I don’t get to set the speed limit. I read where Montana, at one time, did not have a daytime speed limit. Just because I obey the speed limit doesn’t mean I don’t want to go fast. Obeying the laws – even the ‘stupid’ ones, unless it clearly goes against God’s Word (Acts 5:29) is what we are called to do. (Titus 3:1) It is a tall order, but God is right there ready to help us.

God also sets up some rules for living an abundant, fruitful life. When God says “thou shall or thou shall not,” He isn’t trying to cramp our style. Rather He is leading us down a path of peace, strength, joy, and victory. He has our best interests in mind. He is for us. (Psalm 118:6)

Thankfully God offers grace, mercy and forgiveness to us as we strive to follow Him. Applying God’s Word to our day-to-day living is a lifelong process.

Following Jesus!
