Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

pain – hope

I was reminded today of a painful season in my life. No, it did not turn out how I had hoped, how I had prayed. Yes, it changed those involved in such a way as to never be the same again. I am grateful for God’s healing and His peace that has taken that memory and stripped it of power.

“But as for me, I will hope continually,
And will praise You yet more and more.” Psalm 71:14

Pain changes us. Yet, when we put that pain in God’s hands – trusting Him – He brings beauty out of ashes. (Isaiah 61:3) God Does This!

Sometimes the night seems long …
“weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5

Remember…
“when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me” Micah 7:8

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Overflowing with hope,

heaven all around

Heaven – Coming face to face with Jesus, the one who loves us unconditionally! When what has been unseen, is now seen. (1 Corinthians 13:12) When our faith/hope meets those nail scarred hands in person. Heaven where there will be no more sickness, no pain, no heartache, no deadlines to meet, no misunderstandings, no rudeness, no sarcasm… (Revelation 21:4)
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.” 1 Thess 4:16-17

text speech
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)
Wednesday night in Bible study the question was asked –  What privilege do we enjoy on earth that we won’t have in heaven? If you are like me, this made my head tilt. Huh?
Answer:
To be used by God to show someone the way to Christ.
To see lives changed by the glory of God.
To let His light shine through us.
To reach the lost with the good news.
To make a difference in our family, church, work place, city, and our world.
Our faith in God speaks loudly in our words and actions.
YOLO! (You only live once!)

something to think on

Often I take notes when I am listening to someone preach. It keeps my mind from wandering. It helps me stay focused.  Also, I have it to look back on which always encourages me. I highly recommend it.

Today I am going to share a few thoughts/quotes from Pastor Curt.

“We are called to make a difference but first God has to make a difference in us. Let God’s light shine into our lives and then allow that light to shine through our lives.”

“Holiness begins in our mind.”

“When God shows us sin in our lives, we do not try to redefine it. We can change by the power of God that dwells within us.”

“As long as we focus on our problems, the more convinced we will be of our isolation, hopelessness and our inability to get out from under the problem.”

“Obedience leads to stability.”

And one from Ann Voscamp:
“Peace isn’t the absence of the dark. Peace is the assurance of God’s presence in the midst of the dark.”

In conclusion — a verse to go to sleep on.

“In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” Psalm 4:8 (NLT)

real love

When I think about how much Jesus loves me – i am in awe. It is because of Him that i am able to love others.

The more my ability to express love and concern for others grows – the more fulfilled I find myself. The more love I give – the more I receive. That’s just how it works. We are able to express love because we are loved by the One who matters most.

“…where they helped the believers to grow in love for God and each other.” Acts 14:22

love for God – Here are a couple choruses that I have found myself singing lately.

“I keep falling in love with Him over and over and over and over again… He gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by….”

“I fall in love with You all over again. You constantly amaze me. You reach out and embrace me…..”

I hope that you, too, are growing in your love for God. It is the foundation.

Growing in our love for each other is evident in so many ways. May it be said of us as it was said of the church in Thessalonian “Your faith is growing phenomenally; your love for each other is developing wonderfully.” (2 Thessalonians 1)

Galatians 5:6 tells us – “…for all we need is faith working through love.”

Let’s do that!

fathers

Yesterday I talked about a mother’s influence. Today let’s turn our attention to fathers.

“Fathers,do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)

Exasperate – to provoke to a high degree

How many times have I heard someone say that they just wanted their dad to be proud of them. Some fathers need a wake up call. Anger can be so destructive. It can cause rifts that go on through a lifetime.

I recently told someone that as a parent, I am the adulter adult. In that, if there is a problem with my child, I am responsible to reach out, to keep reaching out, to love, to keep loving. I will always be the mom and with that comes great responsibility.

Here are a couple verses that apply to all of us.

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” James 1 :19-20

GO!

“And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”
Mark 16:15 (NLT)

How do we do that?

We pray. Prayer is communication with the Father. Prayer changes things. Something to remember, though, is that Jesus said, “Go!” Prayer with action is powerful. God will direct your steps but you must take those steps.

One thing you can do is to be intentional about getting out there. Meet people where they are: those you work with, see at the grocery store, your neighbors, at the park…. be intentional.
Look for ways to bring Jesus into the conversation. Listen to what they are saying and look for ways to share hope in Christ. Using your own story, reveal ways Jesus has made a difference.

Don’t let fear stop you. The more you step out, the easier it will become. Just start.

Go and share.

Micah 6:8

Recently the question the question was asked,  “What does God require of us?”

A few of the answers were:

Love God

Love your neighbor

Do good, and

Be humble

Obedience

My mind went to Micah 6:8 “He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”  (KJV)

Do justly.
Love Mercy.
Walk humbly with God.

micah 6 8

How do we live that out in our day to day happenings?

today — you choose

THURSDAY!

“This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

God gives us this day – we choose how we will handle it. I choose joy. Not all days are great but, there is good in every day! I chose to see the good, give God praise and to trust Him in all things – good and bad.

T – Truthful
H -Helpful
U – Upright
R – Respect
S – Sparkle
D – Dream
A – Adventurous
Y – Yes, Lord

Father, help me to be Truthful and Upright in my dealings with people. May I make the most of opportunities to be Helpful. May I show Respect for others and see people thru Your eyes. May You Sparkle thru me. Give me God-sized Dreams and an Adventurous heart as I say “Yes Lord” to whatever You ask. Amen

” Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly,
And works righteousness,
And speaks the truth in his heart;
He who does not backbite with his tongue,
Nor does evil to his neighbor,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;” Palm 15:1-3 (NKJV)

but i intend…..

We judge ourselves by our intentions, yet judge others by their actions.

Today I want to look at just that first part. It can be so easy to fall into this trap. “Well, I intend to ….” And yet never do it. (Example – I intend to read my Bible. I intend to grow in my relationship with God.) However, because we intend to do it, we are numb to the conviction to actually do it.

How well does it go over with you when your child doesn’t do what he/she was told and their explanation is – I’m gonna do it?

Delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Disobedience has consequences. Sometimes our intentions end up making us soft on sin. Sin, if not dealt with, will take us farther than we ever thought we would go, keep us longer than we ever wanted to stay, and cost us more than we ever thought possible.

What is God speaking to you about today? What intention do you need to follow through on?

this battle isn’t mine

Whatever comes our way today – God is with us.

Nothing comes as a surprise to Him.
He calls us to trust Him – to let our faith arise.
“By faith—by believing God—we know that the world and the stars—in fact, all things—were made at God’s command; and that they were all made from things that can’t be seen. ” Hebrews 11:3 (TLB)
God created the heavens and the earth, He holds it all together, He has us engraved on the palm of His hand, AND that battle we are in, well, don’t forget that it is His battle and we are His! (Gen 1:1, Col 1:17, Isaiah 49:16, 2 Chron 20:15, Psalm 110:3)

Whatever it is that is coming at us – God is greater!

Say this with me:
–That person that is trying to make my life difficult — God says that Vengeance is His – He will repay.                            (Romans 12:19)

–The health issues that I face — God says to trust Him. He is my healer and His grace is sufficient.”                           (Proverbs 3:5-6, Exodus 15:26, 2 Cor 12:9)

–That job related issue that is bringing me stress – God says to cast my cares on Him.                                                        (1 Peter 5:7)

–That thing that is trying to bring anxiety – God says His comforts gives me renewed hope.                                     (Psalm 94:19)

–When my paycheck is reduced, I trust God  — God says He is my provider.  I will lack no good thing.                                  (Psalm 34:10)

I Trust God!
battle
“Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.”
Psalm 100:2-4 (NLT)
