Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

doing nothing is still a choice

Is there something you really don’t want to do but know that it needs to be done? Do you tend to put it off as long as possible? When we put off something that needs to be done, it can weigh on us like a ton of bricks.

Doing nothing is still a choice. Consequences can become worse the longer we wait.

Dread is a powerful emotion. It is a joy stealer.

Instead, reroute your approach.

God is your strength. Whatever it is that needs to be done – God knows all about it. Ask Him to help you. Ask Him to turn it into something greater than you can imagine. Ask Him to use you in the situation to bring Him glory.

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Eph 3:20-21 ESV

I can’t count the number of doctor visits I have had this year. In the beginning, I was focused on the time and money that each one seemed to be wasting. Thankfully God got a hold of my thought process and now I see them as potential opportunities to give God glory.

Today was such a day. I had a nurse I rarely have and there we were talking about how good God is as she took my vitals. She shared something personal and again we gave God thanks. It all took maybe a minute but it was a power minute. It was a day changer minute.

I have become friends with the Phlebotomist. We played catch up on our lives as she drew blood. I could see joy bubbling up in her as we talked.

Why not make it a goal of yours to leave people a bit better after talking with you? Why not look for ways to encourage?

“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.” Proverbs 11:25 ESV

dread

Is there a task that you dread doing? Maybe something that just gets under your skin and yet it needs to be done?

When the boys were young, I hated washing dishes.

When we moved from the apartment to the house, it only got worse. I found myself also hating my house – especially my kitchen. Yet, God had given us this house. I knew that I knew that this house was a big blessing from God.

I needed to take control of my words and speak life not death. (Proverbs 18:21 – I stopped saying I hate this house and instead I began to thank God for our home. Wow! What a transformation took place in me.)

I still needed to find a solution to my dishes problem. So I prayed.

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:17

Whatsoever! How is this possible?

verse 16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (here is a plug for church also — we need each other)

Later that week I had received in the mail my teaching from Joyce Meyer. WaLa! I popped it in and that began a beautiful journey of doing dishes with Joyce. To this day, I still do dishes with Joyce and I love it.

Whatever it might be that tempts you to complain or dread, ask God to show you how to get victory over it. Dig in His Word for insight. Pray, praise, read the Word and apply it to your situation. Use your words to speak life not death.

what r u w8ing 4?

What is it that is keeping you from enjoying the day?  What are you waiting for?  Make the decision to enjoy this day.   Don’t wait til you have more money.  Don’t wait til you are married.   Don’t wait til the kids are older.   Don’t wait til you get that promotion.  Enjoy life now!!!!!

So many times people are just wishing their life away.  It’s Monday and already they can’t wait til Friday.  So many people live in the realm of  “When I _________ (fill in the blank) then I’ll be happy.”

Live in the moment.  Embrace life.

Don’t let life pass you by.  Don’t waste today wishing for tomorrow.   Each day is a gift, we don’t have a do over button.  There isn’t a delete button or a rewind button.  What we do have is today.  Life is good and time marches on.

The other trap is to fall face first into dread.  Maybe by choosing to live in the moment it would require acknowledging pain or sorrow or something equally as difficult.   Life can be hard, but God is there.

I have found pain to be an effective tool in my life.  Pain can bring about change.  Pain gets me on my knees in prayer.  Sometimes God will calm the storm, sometimes He calms me while the storm rages.

I don’t know how people live in the moment of heartache or pain without God.  Psalm 29:11b  “The Lord will bless His people with peace.”

As a Christian, in the midst of  ‘awfulness’ I embrace God.  I know that  He is working it out. (Romans 8:28)    I can live in the moment by the reality that God is with me.  He will sustain me and give me peace.  He will help me take my eyes off the ‘problem’ and see reasons for gratefulness.

So what r u w8ing 4?  What is keeping you from enjoying this day?  Most of the time it is just a matter of readjusting one’s thinking.  The day is a gift.  What we do with it is our choice.

I choose to live this day to the fullest.  How about you?
