Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

continually part 2

Continually – on going.
Continually – that word has gotten my attention quite a bit since the devotion on Wednesday from Psalm 34.
                                                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
verse 1 “I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
                                                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another definition of continually is without interruption. That got me to thinking about what those things are that interrupt my praise. What interrupts your praise?
                                                                        –
When covid19 is a memory, when I am able to return to my regularly scheduled life, when restrictions are lifted, there is one thing above all other things that I desire. What is that? I desire that people I know and strangers I meet will be able to recognize that I walk with God. That they will see Him!
There is the goal.
.
You can’t do it for me and I can’t do it for you. However, God is right there waiting for you to spend time with Him.

Psalm 105:2-4 (ESV)
“Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!”

Lamentations 3:24-25 (ESV)
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.”

waiting and seeking

This is the fourth day on Lamentations 23:21-25 ESV
We’ve looked at hope, mercy, portion and finally today waiting on and seeking God.

“But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.” ESV

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” We are told over and over again to wait on and seek the Lord.

Waiting and seeking seem to go together. Why is it that we can be so impatient? Waiting can bring out the worst in people. Covid19 has hit the pause button for a lot of people. Maybe you find yourself waiting for restrictions to lift and life to return. How we wait matters. God’s will not ours. Luke 22:42

I encourage you to take time to seek God. Grow in your knowledge of the Word. Study the scriptures. Look up what it has to say on seeking, on waiting, on growing. Let’s come out of covid19 a stronger army of God!

Here are a few to get you started on seeking:

  • Seek first the kingdom of God. Matt 6:33
  • Seek the Lord, his strength; his presence continually! 1 Chron 16:10-12 Psalm 105:4
  • Seek His face 2 Chron 7:14
  • Psalm 27:8 “You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” ESV
  • Seek with your whole heart. Psalm 119:2 & 10

while I am waiting – I am seeking,

guard your thoughts

A few thoughts:
Be Thankful – count your blessings
Recognize the need to call upon His name
Make known – share your story!
Sing – singing songs to and about God is one way to fill your peace tank
Talk – long ago I decided to be intentional about bringing God into conversations. After awhile it just becomes second nature.
Rejoice — choose joy! With your heart – seek God.
Seek the Lord – with intent – go after God.
Remember — “Remember that God has been faithful in the past so when difficulties arise you are not swayed by them.” Pastor Curtis

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

limitations

My husband has a to-do list. We would love for some things to get crossed off this list while we are spending time at home. Sadly we are limited due to not having what we need to accomplish the task.

In order to fix the downstairs spigot he needs a new one. To identify the problem with the trailer lights, he needs something from the hardware store. Even to change the furnace filter, he needs a new filter.

This morning I was feeling the pressure of my own limitations. Then I took a shower. For me, running water clears my head. My sister and I often joke about – “Having a bad day?” “Take a shower.” I should have done it sooner. I wasted a whole morning.

I was reminded that God is not hindered by limitations. Social distancing doesn’t apply to Him. He is not a carrier of covid19. We can get as close to Him as we choose.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…” James 4:8 NASB

“When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.” Psalm 27:8 NASB

You have what you need to draw closer to God. Open your bible, let the Living Word of God refresh you and remind you that God is greater. Talk with Him, tell Him what you are feeling but don’t stay stuck there. Allow Him to speak into your heart.

Take a shower (it might help) and picture the stress washing away. Then let God wrap you in the towel of His peace and grace.

what are you seeking?

Yesterday we looked at Asa in 2 Chronicles 14. Chapter 15 finds him given this warning.

“Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you”

As soon as Asa heard this, he took action. He got rid of any idols, repaired the altar of the Lord and gathered the people.

” And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul,” (verse 12)

He went so far as to remove the Queen because she had made a detestable image. (verse 16)

It is still true today. If we seek God, we will find Him.

The question today is — Are you seeking Him?

true desire

Curtis

“One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.”   Psalm 27:4

have you read Psalm 27 lately?

Let’s look a few verses of Psalm 27.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?” (verse 1)

Salvation – I am grateful that God tells us today is the day of salvation. (2 Cor 6:1-3) I need Him today to save me – To save me from myself, from negative thoughts, from people who would do me harm, from the enemy of my soul who would try to destroy….

God is my strength.  I need Him.

He will give us wisdom to know what to do and strength to do it. We do not need to live in fear of tomorrow, of change, of things out of our control….

“One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.

When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” (verse 4, 8)

What is your desire? Do your actions adequately reflect this?

God I want You! I want to be more and more aware of Your presence in my life.

“Teach me Your way, O Lord,
And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.

Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (verse 11,13,14)

Seek Him. Take time to get to know Him. Read His Word. Apply His Word.

“We live in this world with all its problems, clutter and stuff… The demands of this world can be in your face. Seek God’s face. Let our hearts be sensitive to God being with us…. Are you building a history of encounters with God?” Pastor Curtis

Are you seeking God? For most of us, it could be more than it is.

Selah

life

Life seems to be what happens while we are making all sorts of plans.  Good intentions don’t do us any good unless we follow through.

I want my life to make a difference.

psalm 34 14

Turn from evil.

Do we turn from evil or do we let it entertain us? The movie industry does a fine job of filming corruption, violence, greed, affairs, murders, sex……. we choose what we watch.

Do good.

Do is an action verb. Be intentional about doing good.

Seek peace.

When we feel ourselves getting worked up over something — remember we are offered peace that goes beyond our understanding. (Phil 4:6-7)

John 14:27 Jesus is telling us:
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Pursue peace.

Going after peace is repeated. Personally I think that is because of the importance of having a peaceful state of mind. If we are upset, we are much more apt to worry, make bad choices, say things we regret, and/or focus inward taking our eyes off Jesus.

Turn from evil. Do good. Seek peace and pursue it. My prayer is that I will grow in my understanding and ability to apply these things to my life. What about you?

growing in faith!
