do not fear

Fear cripples faith, but faith overcomes fear!

I needed to be reminded this morning that I have nothing to fear. I know some of what today holds, but more importantly I know who holds me today.

Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Over and over the Bible says fear not, do not be dismayed, do not be anxious, trust God, be strong and courageous, God is with us, our hope is in Him!

Fear is controlling. It limits what a person does. Fear will also cause some people to try to control or manipulate a situation/person. This is not beneficial.

Bad decisions are often the result of fear. Being afraid will create distance, both in our relationship with God and with others.

Fear will try to keep me confined in my comfort zone. I have come to realize that a ‘comfort zone’ is a great way to avoid embracing life. Thankfully God is always nudging me to step out in faith. Oh what an adventure it is!!

For today I remind myself of what Psalm 112:7-8 says

“They do not fear bad news;
they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.
They are confident and fearless
and can face their foes triumphantly.” (NIV)

Whatever you are facing today – remember you are not alone. Truly God is an ever-present help in trouble, (Psalm 46:1) You are His and You are safe in His embrace. (Proverbs 18:10, 29:25) He is with you, for you, and loves you.

Today trust God, let your faith rise up, and hold fast to the knowledge that God is able to help you handle anything that comes your way.

Trusting God!

trouble – peace?

I scrolled facebook this afternoon and once again noticed that there many who are facing some pretty big issues. Sadly there are those who leave God out of the solution.

When my peace is lacking, I can trace it back to a lack of rejoicing on my part, or my gentleness has been replaced with harshness, or I am entertaining worry, or I am ungrateful at that moment or I probably haven’t prayed about it, or I have allowed my thoughts to become negative. Sometimes all of the above are evident. All of these things do seem to go together.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:4-8 (NIV)

Want peace? God’s Word gives us instructions.

learning to dance in the rain

I am not a fan of driving in rain. Lately I have had lots of practice. Last week there was such a downpour that I got off at the next exit just to get a break. The rain did let up only to start again after I got back on the highway.

I don’t mind if it is a gentle rain, but when it seems the heavens open and the floods are coming — well, I prefer not to be driving.

Life can be like that at times. It can seem to come at us fast and furious. We barely catch our breath and here comes more.

Once again, I am reminded that my attitude plays a huge role in how I handle the rain storms and the storms of life.

The Message Bible reminds us in James 1:2-4

“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.”

Jesus tells us in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (NIV)

So, when you feel life coming at you full speed ahead — look at your attitude – it may need adjusting.  We can learn to dance in the rain.  We can choose to focus on the good.  God is good!   And we can remember peace is available through Jesus.

selah

 “Trust in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah.” Psalm 62:8 (NASB)

God is our refuge, hiding place, foundation, peace, shelter in the time of storm, so that we can remain strong, steady, fixed, stable, unfaltering during times of confusion, violence, uproar, and/or utter chaos.

“God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.” Psalm 46:1-3

Selah – pause and think about that.

God is our peace. (Ephesians 2:14) If we allow the enemy (devil) to get us into fear, he can defeat us and keep us trapped in a vicious cycle of fear and anxiety.

Let your faith arise. As your faith rises, fear flees.  Pour out your heart to God.  He is there to help!  He sees the whole picture and He is for you. (Psalm 62:8, 46:1,  1 John 3:20, Psalm 118:6)

i choose

walk by faith

Next time a sunrise steals your breath or a meadow of flowers leaves you speechless remain that way. Say nothing and listen as heaven whispers, “Do you like it? I did it just for you.” Max Lucado

When was the last time you actually took time to enjoy the sunrise?  or set?

When you look at flowers/gardens – do you focus on the beauty or  the weeds?

Choices — we get to choose what we focus on.

This year found me again finding new ways to tackle weeds and sadly not very effective ways.  Oh, how we can take for granted the ability to get on our hands and knees.

My husband gave me this little reminder.  For me, it isn’t just about my gardens.  In my life both beauty and weeds will grow.   What I focus on will affect how I see things and even how I feel.  My garden is not the only thing that is in need of regular weeding.

Today is not a good day for me physically.  It is what it is.  BUT  I still have a choice.  I can let this overtake me. In which case, discouragement is right there.  OR I can make the necessary changes to my schedule and do those things that I know will eventually give me some relief.  I can give in to self-pity or I can walk by faith that even this has a purpose in my life.  (Rom 8:28)  Choices!

Paul said in Corinthians that the even though he begged God to make him well again and remove the thorn – that God’s response was —  “No. But I am with you; that is all you need. My power shows up best in weak people.”  (2 Cor 12:7-10)   

So today I remind myself again that I am nothing without Jesus.  All of my talent and ability comes from Him.  He is in control of my life and if today finds me changing my plans then I will embrace today in the same way I embrace a day of activity.  This is the day God has made, I will rejoice and be glad.  (Psalm 118:24)

I see leaves of green, red roses too. I see them bloom for me and you and I think to myself what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue and clouds of white. The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night and I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Whatever the day holds for you, remember you have a choice.  You can trust God that He is an ever present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 (Please notice it doesn’t say He will remove all trouble.)  In your weakness He will be strong, if you trust Him and let Him.

I choose joy!

God I look to You.  I won’t be overwhelmed. Give me vision to see things like You do.

God I look to You.  You’re where my help comes from.  Give me wisdom to know You know just what to do.
