Living Life in a Fish Bowl!

Gloria’s take on life.

loving life part 7

I love my life (loving life part 6)

Jesus came to give us life abundant. (John 10:10) He didn’t die so we would be miserable.
Love wins!

It isn’t always easy and it costs. It cost Jesus everything and He says to come and follow Him.  He said, “Not my will but Yours be done.” That is powerfully important to living a life you can love. Choose to not let your flesh respond but to allow the Spirit to respond. I will not resort to anger instead, I will love.

Life is hard, but I love my life. People can be cruel but I love people. Pain can be intense, but God is greater than the pain.

I love this life that Jesus came to give me. I hope that you will also love the life that He came to give you.

“This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

life abundant?

I enjoy my life. It is sometimes crazy, always full, and even in the hard times I know that God is with me. I decided a long time ago to live life fully — living the abundant life Jesus talked about. (John 10:10)

Unforced rhythms of grace is how I can enjoy all that I do. God’s grace is enough for whatever today holds. Walking with and working with the leading of the Holy Spirit is key to living the abundant life – to enjoying life.

Why would I choose to be miserable when I can enjoy today!!
I once said that I wanted to do it all. What I meant by that is — all that God has for me to do. I want to embrace each day as a gift from God – because it is.

I think it can be easy to fall short of what God has planned for us. “Not my will but Yours be done” is a powerful prayer. However, when we sense the leading to do something that requires discipline on our part or a greater sacrifice than we really want to make… — you see where I am going with this. Yet, the abundant life is tied into saying yes to God.

mark 6 31 (2)
“…Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life…. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

Walk with and work with Jesus. Operate in the unforced rhythms of grace.

Tomorrow I will look at what to do when you feel worn out.

God smiles

God smiles. “For the Lord takes pleasure in his people…” (Psalm 149:4 ESV)

Some people have a distorted view of God. They see Him as distant, angry, and/or uninvolved. This couldn’t be farther from the truth.

God loves us. He has desired a relationship from the very beginning. He would walk with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. (Genesis 3) — He gave His Son to pay the price we couldn’t pay. (John 3:16) — We are told to seek Him. (Psalm 27:8) — Yes, God wants a relationship with us.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:7-8 ESV

What about you? Where is your relationship with God?

Thy will be done,

cross, nails, will

What does it mean to you when Jesus says to take up your cross? To follow Him?

“And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23

How do we live out Galatians 5:24-25 (NLT)
“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

We live in a world that seems to center around “me, me, me” and how everything affects me. Christianity sets us apart from that line of thinking. Jesus sets the example when He prayed in the garden – “Not my will but yours be done.”

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life…… Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?……. Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” portions of Matthew 6:25-33 ESV

God first!

resting

How’s your soul? (Will, mind, emotions)

Are you off to a good start or do you find yourself weary? Jesus addresses this in Matthew 11 (28-30)

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (NLT)

I have a friend who insists that bad luck comes in threes. I don’t believe in bad luck. Bad things happen but that should come as no surprise when we are told over and over again things like ‘count it all joy when you face trials’ James 1:2 – ‘in the world you will have trouble….’ John 16:33 — ‘rejoice always, again I say rejoice’ Phil 4:4 –‘even though the going is rough’ 1 Peter 1:6 — ‘endure hardship’ 2 Tim 2:3 — what we suffer now’ Romans 8:18 ….

When life starts to press in on you and things seem to go from bad to worse, remember what Jesus says to you. “Come to me!” Make the time. Open your bible and read what He has to say to you. Sit quietly before Him and allow His gentleness to permeate you. Cast your cares on Him. (1 Peter 5:6-7) Let His peace wash over you. (Phil 4:4-7) Let Him give you rest.

Resting in Jesus,

how’s your soul?

How’s your soul? (will, mind, emotions)
My morning started out a little rough. I have a pinched nerve in my neck that I thought was gone. Sadly the medicine was only masking the pain – not fixing it.

Did you know that you can change your day by changing your attitude?

My attitude was heading south. There are a ‘million’ things I could focus on concerning my health and the way I am feeling BUT I want to enjoy this day. There are no do overs. So as with anything in my life – I took it to God.

Maybe you need to pray this prayer with me.

“Good morning God. This is the day You have made and I am wanting to choose to rejoice in it. In order to do that I need Your help. Help me to not fixate on the pain, the ‘now what’, or the ‘how’, but to keep my eyes on You. You are good! You love me and You are working all things out for my good. Yes, even this pain. Help me to see beyond myself, to see the opportunities You have for me today. I can do what you set before me this day because You are with me. I choose hope! I choose You, Jesus! (Psalm 118:24, 46:1, 2 Cor 10:5, Heb 12:2, Rom 8:28, Col 4:5, Phil 4:13)

I also looked to God’s word to speak to my heart. If you haven’t read Ephesian 3 lately, I encourage you to read it.

My take on a few of the verses:
V6. God’s plan is that we belong to Him
V7. it is a privilege to serve God
V14 because of Jesus and our faith in Him, we can come to God boldly and confidently. We don’t have to have it all together or say the right things but we come just as we are.
V14-15 there is something special about kneeling before God – surrendering to the Creator of everything
V16 is my verse to hold on to today!
V17 trusting Christ (in the good and the bad, health and pain) sinks our roots deep in God’s love and that keeps us strong – I want that!
V18 God’s love – nothing greater (wide, long, high, deep) Makes me want to break out into song “Oh, how He loves us so. Oh how He loves us.”
V19 we don’t just know of His love, we experience His love
V20 God gets the glory! He is able to do more than we can even imagine

Yes, I am now ready to face the day as a mighty child of God.
What about you?
